In practice, fixing that is a simple modification e.g. That's because later versions of the YTS-62 neck have the octave-arm loop set higher, so the octave post on the body of your YTS-23 can't reach high enough to move it. Just remember that I'm talking about the neck from a YTS-62 Mk 1 here. If you get a YTS-23 and there's an opportunity to fit a YTS-62 neck (perhaps in a friendly music shop), you should try it and see what you think. It didn't completely transform the sound, but in my view there was (at least in my humble opinion) a small improvement. I did that and noticed an improvement i.e. Like I said before, you can change the sound of a YTS-23 by adding the neck from a YTS-62 Mk 1. To cut a long story short, the Yamaha YTS-23 is a seriously good tenor sax and I have no hesitation in recommending it to you. However, in the UK, if I was paying £570 then I'd expect the YTS-23 to be in excellent condition. I can't comment whether the price you'd pay for a second-hand YTS-23 in Portugal is good or bad, simply because I don't know the market there. The key-action on it is astonishingly fast - runs like greased lightning. I've played YTS-23s on gigs and never felt outgunned by other players. Many professionals have them as their "back-up" horn for when their Selmer Mk 6 or Yanagisawa T992 is in the shop being repaired. Even if you don't bother, the YTS-23 is capable of a lot more than its so-called student label would suggest. Here's a review of the YTS-23 which should answer all your questions:-Īs a bonus, you can fit the neck from another Yamaha tenor to it e.g. The flipside to that is I felt the BW was more robustly made and could stand up to rougher handling than the YTS-23 - not that you should ever handle a sax roughly - but still, that was the impression I got. The fit and finish on the BW is OK, but not as good as the YTS-23 which is much more precise. With that said, the lower register on the BW tenor was truly outstanding - easily on a par with a Yanagisawa T991. I tried different mouthpieces to try to fatten it up etc, but the problem remained. Don't get me wrong, I liked the Bauhaus Walstein a lot - but sold it because the upper register always sounded very slightly "thin" to me.

I've owned and played examples of both, and feel qualified to comment. I'd choose the Yamaha YTS-23 every time and not the "standard" Bauhaus Walstein tenor.
